In loving memory of Gabe Zimmerman

For 2 weeks now, I have been meaning to write and post pictures about my return to Udaipur, more about my time in Kolkata, an awesome welcome to the new year in Goa and then a last minute up-and-down trip to Delhi and Agra. But now, I don’t feel like writing about that just yet. This week, I was very sad to learn about the recent shooting in Arizona and especially saddened to learn that one of those killed was Gabe Zimmerman, who was my counselor at Kinderland a few years ago. I remember Gabe as a wonderful counselor and person, who handled everything with grace, patience and humor. Gabe spent a lot of time talking to me when I was feeling sad during that time and was a wonderful listener. He was very calm and never showed his frustration, even when I (most likely accompanied by Miss Lainie Kaplan-Levenson) were being difficult. He had a great sense of humor and a big energy, without taking up too much space, he was a loving and peaceful person. I will always picture him sitting with me on the hammocks by the CIT bunks wearing a backwards hat and a Darwin t-shirt. Gabe, you will be missed greatly, I am so blessed to have known you, may your memory remind us all of our committment to making the world a more happy and peaceful place to live.

This is really lovely and a nice memory. Being able to bring humor and listening to sad moments is a powerful quality. This loss and this shooting are such an important reminder of how much needs to change. I am holding Gabe's friends and family and in the light. <3 to you.
