attack on sri lankan cricketers in pakistan

This morning I was troubled (I wouldn't say surprised) to hear the news of the attack on Sri Lankan cricketers in Pakistan (in the economist here). As Bush pumped resources into Pakistan, attacked Iraq, and put Afghanistan on the back-burner, we now see shits hitting the fan in Pakistan too. There's great instability in the whole area and India-Pakistan relations are especially bad. Taliban is taking over in Pakistan, way faster than Obama is addressing it, and the last thing Pakistani's need is the end of their favorite sport. Now we've got
pakistan blaming india for the attacks (which brings up the other thing that people don't seem to be paying attention to, hindu extremism) and India on the defensive. Now Sri Lanka is pissed too and forced on the defensive against claims that attack was orchestrated by the LTTE. There's a whole lot of finger pointing going on, which will only perpetuate this cycle of violence, which cannot be viewed as geographically isolated by any means. US denying problems in Pakistan in an attempt to keep them as a "strategic ally" have not only been undermined by Taliban activity and excessive instability in Pakistan, but also left Indians pissed and confused as to why the US supports them. Whereas Sri Lanka's issues have been relatively internal, this clearly provides a point of contention. Things are clearly getting even more complicated, and the last thing Pakistan needs is further disruption to their ability to play and enjoy cricket.
